Edwardian Style Kitchen
My kitchen posed a challenge for Matthew James because of the
numerous windows and doors that limited wall space
To compensate for this, tall pieces of
furniture provide copius storage while the free standing central island
provides a central work station and forms a link between the range cooker and
the Belfast sinks in the corner.
In lieu of a chimney breast, a mantle
to surround their Elan Rangemaster Cooker was opted for with a spashback of
ceramic tiles. Farrow & Ball's Chapel Green was chosen for the painted
kitchen furniture, topped with Olive Green granite, which together with Oak for
the pantry cabinet and central island top combines sublime touches in their
handmade Edwardian-style kitchen.
The large bespoke pantry cabinet,
built-in at the end of the kitchen was manufactured from European Oak and
finished with a clear lacquer. It serves as a spectacular storage area for dry
goods as it's entire contents can be seen at a glance.
The drawers have been crafted
from the same solid oak wood as the larder and accomodate the family's everyday
utensils, cultery and pans. The cupboards and soft-closing drawers are finished
with a combination of ceramic and antique pewter handles and knobs.
