Despite there being
four windows in the room, the kitchen didn't have a natural flow of light.
Therefore, the essential thing was to make the area feel lighter. Walls were
painted in Dimity by Farrow & Ball which teamed with neutral French
Limestone porcelain tiles and carefully positioned lighting helped to enhance
the feeling of light.
After an initial
discussion, numerous meetings followed as the design, layout and choice of
materials were tweaked.
European oak was
chosen for the base cabinets with Nero Impala granite for the work surfaces in
the main working area of the kitchen and solid Oak for the remainder. Blue
Ground by Farrow & Ball was selected for the hand painted wall cabinets as
it echoed the colour of their existing Aga, with Dimity being used on the
Mantel surrounding the Aga to blend in with the walls.
Filled with a host of innovating design features, such as
soft close magic corners, a neatly concealed recycling system that consists of
four containers for cans, organic waste, glass and paper that slides out from
behind a pull out door and a built-in dishwasher. There is a slim wall cabinet
in the corner which has a pin board for the centre panel and adjustable shelves
inside with the client adding hooks for keys.
Traditional in design but softened with a curved peninsular
and curved corner posts. Leaving one wall without wall cabinets gave a feeling
of space and the wow-factor kitchen that the clients wanted to
achieve. |
